The coils are tightly wound together, which absorb and store energy, and the ends are normally designed as hooks to be attached to other components. When the components move apart, a pulling force is exerted, the spring then creates a resistance force and tries to bring them back together. It is normally in the form of a circular cross-section, while its ends vary with the application. Common ends include round hook (English hook), square hook, semi-circular hook (German hook), U-shaped hook, movable hook, etc.
